I just started working in encaustic and I first tinkered around with beeswax in the block form. Oh man, what a pain! First I had to cut/break it so I could get it in manageable chunks then weigh it or worse guess because it didn't really fit in a standard measure cup.Not to mention a pound of low quality wax was $20. So when I decided encaustic is the medium I've been missing all my life, I came to amazon for a cost effective solution that would also eliminate the guess work and the added labor so I could spend more time painting. This was the answer for me. It comes in pellets, so it's easy to measure (NO cutting) AND it melts so fast! The wax is a little sticky like microcrystalline sculpture wax and so I was a little concerned about the brittleness when painting, but I have not noticed any. My only real complaint is I wish I would have bought a larger bag.
