Stockmar crayons are made of beeswax. The combination of beeswax with safe color-fast pigments allows your child to create effects that just aren't possible with regular crayons. For example, Stockmar crayons can be layered due to the natural transparency of the beeswax. The transparency of the colors allows you to create a wide range of intermediary tones. The first color always shimmers through the upper layers creating beautiful effects. Stockmar crayons do not smear or run and can be used on most surfaces including parchment, cellophane, wood, fabric, metal and glass. The selection of colors is based on the natural gradations found in Goethe's twelve-part color wheel. The Waldorf mix consists of the following colors: carmine red, vermilion, orange, gold yellow, lemon yellow, green, ultramarine, red violet. This set of 8 block crayons comes in a tin case. Stockmar Beeswax Stick Crayons are made in Germany. Stockmar crayons are safe and can even be eaten (though we don't recommend this) as they not only meet European toy safety regulations, they also meet food safety standards. These are wonderful crayons. They also smell really good, like beeswax! The colors are rich and easy to combine to make even more new colors. Be aware that different boxes of eight can sometimes yield different combinations of colors. For example, this box has three kinds of red, while a box I got elsewhere had a purple instead of one of the reds.
I highly recommend this quality product.

I bought these crayons for my 1 year old. We have been using them for about 2 months now and they're fantastic. Since they are made from vegetable dyes and beeswax, I don't worry if my teething son puts them in his mouth for a few seconds before we say, "out of mouth". I wouldn't let him bite off a piece and eat it or anything, but I am assured that he's not getting any synthetic chemicals in his system.
In terms of their quality - they draw brilliantly without needing to press hard. Also, one can press down hard and they have not broken. Overall, just a fantastic crayon for toddlers and beyond.
